Getting started

Templates

Start from an app somebody else already built, and publish your own for other people to start from. Every template is free.

A template is a finished app that somebody published so other people can start from it. Using one gives you your own copy, with all its files, which you then change by asking for what you want, exactly as you would with an app you described yourself.

Every template is free. There is nothing to buy here.

Finding one

Templates, in the bar above your projects on the dashboard. The row of buttons along the top narrows the gallery to one kind of app, and each one says how many are in it.

Above it, once the gallery holds both, a second row asks who built it: By Setherion, the starting points we publish and keep working, or Community, everything other people have posted. The two combine, so By Setherion and then CRM shows our CRM templates. A template of ours is also marked on its card, so you can tell one at a glance wherever you meet it.

Under each card you can see how many people have used it, its rating if anyone has left one, who built it, and the category it was filed under.

Using one

Click a card and it opens, with a look at the app, what it does, and what people thought of it. Use Template makes it yours.

What happens then:

  • A new app appears in your projects, called "Remix of" whatever the template was called.
  • It has every file the template had. The author's conversation stays with the author, so none of their messages come with it.
  • It is a copy, not a link. Changing it never touches the template, and the template changing later never touches your copy.
  • You are the owner. Publish it, put it on your own domain, do what you like with it.

You land in the editor with it open. The chat starts with a short welcome that says what the copy already does on its own, such as accounts and forms, and what it needs from you, such as your own Stripe connection or a key. Under it are three ways to begin. Each one puts the start of a request in the message box, and nothing is sent until you finish the sentence and send it.

The original is often online. View app, next to Use Template, opens it in a new tab so you can click around the real thing before you take a copy.

Saying what you thought

Inside the same window you can leave a rating out of five and a few words. One review per person: posting again replaces the one you left, it does not add a second. Other people's reviews can be marked as helpful or not.

Your review is signed with the name on your profile. If you have not set one, it is signed "Setherion builder". It is never signed with any part of your email address.

Publishing one of yours

Any app of yours can become a template. On the dashboard, on the app's card, press the globe. A star is something else: that one marks a favourite, and this one hands the app to everybody.

Name it

The name in the gallery. It starts as the app's name and you can write anything up to 60 characters.

Check the description

Setherion reads your app and writes a line about what it does. It is a starting point, not a verdict, and you should read it before publishing. Up to 400 characters.

Pick an icon and a category

The icon is optional. The category is not: it is what puts your app under the right button at the top of the gallery.

Choose whether to show your name

Show my name is on unless you turn it off. See Your name on it.

Publish

It appears in the gallery straight away.

Your app has to be online first. Its card in the gallery shows the live app, so the window asks you to publish the app from the editor before it lets you continue.

Every file in the app goes with it. Anyone can take a copy and read all of it. Do not publish an app holding anything you would not hand to a stranger. Your conversation with Setherion does not go with it.

Your name on it

The author's name comes from your profile. Set one in your account and it shows here, and everywhere else, straight away.

If your profile is private, your name still shows on the template, but it is not a link: nobody can open your profile from it. The publish window says so before you publish, not after.

To give an app away without your name, turn off Show my name in the publish window. Then:

  • The card says "by a Setherion builder", with a robot instead of your picture, and links to nobody.
  • The template is left off your public profile. You still see it on yours, marked as only visible to you.
  • It is still yours. Publishing the same app again updates it, keeping your choice, and you can delete it as usual.

You can change your mind the next time you publish the app: the switch opens as you left it.

Taking one down

Open your template and use Delete template at the bottom. It disappears from the gallery. Copies other people already made are theirs and stay where they are.

Where your apps live

The copy you just made is in My projects, along with everything else you have built.
