What you can build
Online stores
A shop with products, a cart and card payments through Stripe, or a new shop front for a store you already run on Shopify, WooCommerce or PrestaShop. What gets built, how payments are set up, and where the orders arrive.
An online store shows what you sell, lets people choose, and takes their money. Setherion builds the shop. The money goes through a payment service you connect, straight into your own account.
Two kinds of store
| If you | Build |
|---|---|
| Sell your own products and want to take payments here | A shop that charges through Stripe or Paddle |
| Already run a store on Shopify, WooCommerce or PrestaShop | A new shop front over it: the products come from your store, and buyers pay there |
There is no separate mark for a shop above the box. Say "an online store", "a shop selling" or "a marketplace" in your request, and it is built as one.
What you get without asking
- Products from the first second: names, prices, pictures and categories that fit what you sell, until you put in your own.
- A design that puts the products first: plenty of white, one warm accent, the photos large.
- Accounts for shoppers, with Google or an email and a password. Browsing never needs one.
- No pretend checkout. Until payments are set up, every buy button says plainly that payments are not set up yet. A shop never ends in "Order placed" for an order nobody paid for.
- A layout for phones, where most people shop.
Ask like this
Name what you sell and the parts the shop needs. Everything you name gets built.
An online store for handmade ceramics: product pages with several photos,
categories, a cart, and checkout through StripeA shop for a coffee roaster: beans by origin and roast, a page for each one,
a cart, and a monthly subscriptionA shop for printed posters, with filters by size and colour, a cart,
and a delivery address at checkoutA new shop front for my Shopify store, with the collections on the home page
and a searchAlready have the products in a spreadsheet? Press +, then Import an app, then Spreadsheet, and the shop is built around its columns, with up to 300 of its rows as the first products. A bigger catalogue goes in afterwards: see Your products. See also Import an app.
With Web App picked and the box empty, Online shop is the first of the ideas under it, ready to change. The arrow beside them, Other ideas, shows more.
Take payments
Buyers pay on Stripe's own checkout page, never on a card form in your shop, and the money goes straight into your Stripe account.
Publish the shop
Stripe looks at the live site before it accepts you, and turns down one that is still under construction.
Set up Stripe
In the editor, open Manage, then Payments, and connect Stripe. You fill in Stripe's own form and come back: it asks for an ID document and a bank account, and nothing is typed into Setherion.
Add what you sell
Under What this app sells, press Add: a name, a price, the currency, and One-off, Monthly or Yearly. It goes straight into your Stripe account.
Ask for the buttons
"Make Add to cart and Checkout pay through Stripe". Setherion knows what you added, and wires each button to the right product.
Paddle is the other choice in the same place. It sells as the seller, so VAT and sales tax are handled for you, which is worth it when you sell across borders.
If a shop's checkout takes nobody's money, or asks for a card number on its own page, Manage, then Payments, says so at the top, with the fix.
If you do not take card payments here
A shop does not have to charge online. If its checkout takes nobody's money, Manage, then Payments, says Nobody is charged at checkout, and offers a way out: connect Stripe, use the Stripe you already connected for the checkout, or Make it an order request. An order request is for payment on delivery or by invoice: each order reaches you by email and in Manage, under Cloud, then Forms. See Payments.
Orders
Every paid order appears under Orders, in Manage, then Payments: who paid, how much and when. Refund gives the money back.
An order is written when Stripe tells Setherion the payment went through, not when a page says thank you. So an order is never missing because a buyer closed the tab, and never there unless it was paid. A shopper who was signed in can see their own orders, on a page you ask for: "Add a My orders page".
Your products
The first products are the ones Setherion wrote for your shop. To put in your own, ask in the chat ("Replace the products with these three: ..."), or open Manage, then Cloud, then Database:
- Import a catalogue takes a CSV or Excel file of products. It is read in your browser and never uploaded, so it costs nothing, and you match the file's columns to the shop's before anything is written. A file goes into the shop's own file, which is instant and right for up to about a thousand rows, or into the database, which handles a full catalogue.
- A product in the shop's own file can be changed or removed one at a time, without asking.
See Cloud.
A store you already run
Connect it once, in Connectors, and choose which apps use it. The shop front shows your real products, and stays up to date as you change them in your store.
| Store | What the shop front does |
|---|---|
| Shopify | Shows your products and sends shoppers to Shopify's checkout |
| WooCommerce | Shows your products and sends buyers to your shop's checkout |
| PrestaShop | Shows your products and sends buyers to each product's page in your shop |
Stock, orders and payments stay where they are today. Nothing moves to Setherion.
Make it yours
| To | Do |
|---|---|
| Change a price | Manage, then Payments, then the product. The shop finds the price by the product's name, so the buttons keep working. |
| Change a word or a photo | Edit above the preview, then click it. |
| Ship physical goods | "Ask for a delivery address at checkout and charge 5 euros for postage" |
| Let shoppers find things | "Add a search and filters by category and price" |
| Know who visits | Manage, then Analytics. Or connect Google Analytics. |
| Use your own address | Custom domains, on a paid plan |
Good to know
- Setherion does not keep stock for you. Orders knows paid and refunded, not packed and sent, and nothing counts your shelves down. For physical goods you track that yourself.
- The secret key of your Stripe account never sits in the shop. The published shop asks Setherion, which holds it.
- With Power Seth a shop gets product pages, a cart page and filters by category and by price, even unasked. See Build modes.
